Before establishing or purchasing a vineyard or olive grove in Sardinia, the land, water, climate, infrastructure and economic assumptions should be assessed together.
I prepare independent feasibility assessments for foreign buyers, landowners and investors considering new plantings, the recovery of abandoned land or the restructuring of an existing vineyard or olive grove.
Questions a feasibility study should answer
- Is the land agronomically suitable for vines or olives?
- Are slope, exposure, altitude and microclimate compatible with the project?
- Is sufficient water available and can irrigation be developed realistically?
- Which soil investigations or laboratory analyses are required?
- What planting system, density, varieties or rootstocks should be evaluated?
- Which infrastructure, machinery and labour will the project require?
- Are the expected yields, timescale and costs consistent with the investor’s objectives?
- Which planning, landscape or environmental constraints may affect implementation?
Technical assessment
The scope may include review of available maps and documents, site inspection, land capability, soil and drainage, exposure, frost or wind risk, water resources, access, existing vegetation, planting layout, agricultural infrastructure and the proposed management model.
Where soil or water analyses are needed, sampling and laboratory work are defined separately. Planning, legal, geological, engineering and building matters are coordinated with or referred to the appropriately qualified professional.
New planting, recovery or restructuring
A new planting project differs from the recovery of an existing grove or vineyard. Existing plants must be assessed for condition, density, variety, productivity and the practicality of mechanisation. Restructuring may also involve authorisations, eligibility rules or funding requirements that must be checked for the specific case.
Indicative professional fee
Agricultural feasibility and development assessment — from €1,300 + 4% EPAP. Final fees depend on area, location, available information, site inspection, required analyses and the level of economic or technical detail requested.
Travel, laboratory analyses, official charges, detailed design and the work of other professionals are quoted separately. No work begins before approval of a written scope and quotation.
What you receive
- A clear assessment of the principal opportunities and constraints
- Identification of missing information and additional investigations
- Technical recommendations appropriate to the agreed project stage
- An explanation of assumptions, risks and recommended next steps
Discuss your project
Send the property location, approximate area, available water information, current land use and your intended production model. If you are still considering the purchase, the feasibility study may be combined with valuation or due diligence.
Vineyard restructuring case studies
Two anonymised assignments show how agronomic design, vineyard-register data, implementation and applications under Sardinia’s recurring RRV campaigns can be coordinated.
